필리핀의 대표적인 도로인 EDSA(에드사)도로는 평상시에도 극심한 교통체증으로 유명한 곳입니다.

이 도로로 마닐라의 어디든지 갈 수 있도록 연결이 되어 있기 때문이지요.

 

심각한 교통체증과 많은 차들이 내뿜는 매연으로 그 지역의 공기오염은 악명이 높다고 합니다.

삭막한 도로와 공기 오염, 이 거리를 변화시키는 좋은 방법 없을까요?

필리핀의 BOYSEN은 환경을 위한 'KNOXOUT'페인트를 개발해 냈습니다. 바로 스모그를 먹는 페인트죠. 

BOYSEN은 EDSA 거리의 삭막한 콘크리트 벽에 아름다운 나무들을 그리기 시작합니다.

사람의 폐 모양을 닮은 나무들은, 알록달록하고 다양하게 디자인되어 EDSA거리를 아름답게 만들어 주었습니다.

그리고 동시에 거리를 걸어다니는 사람들, 운전자들에게 환경에 대한 메시지를 던져줍니다.

1제곱미터의 페인트 그림은 한 그루의 성숙한 나무가 가지는 정화능력과 맞먹는다고 해요.

1500 제곱미터의 페인트 그림들은 1500그루의 나무가 가지는 정화의 힘을 가지는 거죠!

허파를 닮은 나무그림들은 EDSA 도로의 오염정도를 20% 감소시켰답니다!

아름다운 한 폭의 그림이 사람들과 환경에 긍정적 영향을 주는걸 보니 정말 대단합니다.

How do you lessen smog on EDSA, a busy highway that’s five times more polluted than the world’s safety standards and has virtually no space for trees?

Boysen, the Philippines’ no. 1 paint maker, together with its agency, decided that when you can’t plant trees, all you have to do is paint them. The solution?a painted row of colorful lung-shaped trees longer than even 2 aircraft carriers combined. The entire stretch was painted using Boysen KNOxOUT?a breakthrough smog-eating paint that contains German developed CristalActiv Photocatalytic technology. When exposed to sunlight, it breaks down pollutants into harmless substances. Every square-meter of the KNOxOUT-painted artworks cleans as much as one mature tree

The artwork proved to be a big hit, winning fans and the battle against pollution, posting a 20% dro_p in EDSA’s pollution. These Tree Lungs are the 5th of massive artworks along EDSA, which enjoyed equally massive coverage locally and internationally, from networks like National Geographic, Reuters, BBC and Al-Jazeera.
